The game mainly revolves around its fighting mode and a new career mode to spice things up. A lot of fun and the clear main focus of the game. You can also take these modified characters and use them in the regular versus mode for some wacky couch play hijinks with friends.
Pretty wonderful to say the least. Each character also has at least 2 unique costumes to unlock and use which is always an appreciated bonus.
Enjoyable all round. The visuals are good for the time and characters look good but some of the finer details have faded through time. Almost nobody really sounds like they should and it can lead to it dampening the otherwise fun gameplay. Not the worst but not exactly average either. The fighters feature such characters as Yugo the Wolf, a street brawler who always fights on the side of good.
There's Gado the Lion, a freedom fighter who went on to lead the Zoanthropes on the UN Council, and his daughter Shina the Leopard, a mercenary fighter. With more esoteric fighters like Buzusima the Chameleon and Stun the Insect, there's plenty of fighters to suit anyone's tastes. Bloody Roar 3 is the newest release from a series of excellent games, all created under the Bloody Roar name.
A 3D fighting game, Bloody Roar 3 sets itself apart from the competition by letting you play Zoanthropes, mighty fighters who shapeshift into various animalistic forms. Engaged in an all-out brawl, you'll take on other competitors, one-on-one, until only one is left standing.
A traditional fighting game with a slight twist, Bloody Roar 3 has a lot to offer. Bloody Roar 3 , like most fighting games, gives you a simple control set with which you will be able to pull off some of the most flashy and impressive moves ever seen in the genre. You've got buttons for punching, kicking, throwing, and most importantly beastorizing.
Beastorizing is what they call shapeshifting in this game, and you've got one whole button dedicated to it. Press that shiny little button and suddenly your character has become a hulking beast capable to breaking bone and rending flesh. Those four buttons come preset to allow you to sidestep, beast dive, or throw, but can easily be changed. One gripe of mine is that Bloody Roar 3 doesn't take advantage of the analog controller, only using the directional pad for movement.
There are a large variety of stages to play on, all of which have destructible sides allowing you to perform finishing moves that hurl your enemy out of the ring. As you progress through the single player, or survival game, you'll fight tougher and tougher enemies, until you've gotten to the end, where you'll fight a boss that's as hard as they come.
This is one of the bigger drawbacks of BR3 as, like its predecessors, it can become unreasoningly difficult in a short amount of time. If you're high strung and don't like have to continue from save a lot, you might want to take it really easy when try to beat the single player game.
When you actually get to the fight, you'll find that Bloody Roar 3 flows very well for a fighting game, allowing you to fight intuitively and string combos easily, while still leaving enough to learn that you'll be entertained for quite some time. There are even two characters that can only be called 'Combo Monkeys' -- flowing from move to move very well, at the expense of doing fairly low damage. Still, even the big fighters like Gado the Lion have a good amount of combos and special maneuvers, letting you get into the thick of it without having to worry about being too slow.
When you morphed to beast, it was a whole new ballgame. Since you were a beast, it was only expected that the blood would be flowing. Some beasts had claws that would rip across the chest of the opponent causing blood to pump out the open wound. Other beasts would grab their opponent in their mouth and thrash them from side to side with blood gushing out of the victim. There is a setting to shut the blood off if you have a weak stomach. I was just impressed with how they incorporated the blood into the game only when you were a beast.
One last thing that I liked about the game was that when you would make it through the arcade mode, it would unlock different bonus items. Each character unlocked something different that would affect the game. The cool thing about it was that most of the bonuses that were unlocked were nothing major but just need little settings in the game.
For example, you would unlock a mode that would turn off the life meter for both fighters so you did not know how much longer you or your opponent had left.
This just was a nice little added touch. I have a couple of minor complaints about the game. First, the fighting engine is pretty much standard fare for 3D fighters. Sure, you can morph and that adds to the game a bit, but the basic game mechanics and feel are nothing new. Next, I did not like when there was a KO because the screen would slip into slow motion and the background would change. For some reason, the slow motion thing just really annoyed me. It may have been because the game played pretty fast and when you hit the knockout blow, I did not want to see it happen in slow motion.
The last thing that bothered me was that the camera angle on the KO replays was always terrible. Most of the time you could not tell what was happening in the replay because of the poor positioning of the camera.
I know this really does not affect the gameplay, but it was still a bit annoying. Bloody Roar has pretty good 3D polygon graphics. There were some times when the characters looked a bit blocky, but for the most part they looked good. The morphing to beasts was seamless and also looked good and did not seem to cause any noticeable slowdown.
The different fighting arenas and backgrounds also were nicely drawn. I really did not like the way that the game slowed on a KO. At first, I thought it was a graphics problem, but later realized it was done intentionally. Bad idea. If you are a die-hard fighter fan and must own every fighting game made, you should be fairly satisfied with this game. For the casual fighting fan like myself, you will find the game entertaining but nothing revolutionary.
Sure, the morphing was a great idea and worked really well, but it just did not change the fact that it was a pretty standard fighting game at heart. Bloody Roar stands to freshen up the fighting genre with its unique morphing fighters, intense speed and unorthodox fighting methods. Although some characters remained almost identical through all 4 matches other changes. For example Yugo has a completely different move in the fourth degree as compared to the original first and Bakuryu has stayed almost the same from some additional relevant evolutionary game from time to time and generations.
Each character has about 14 Ssireum ' show ' is listed in the manual , most of these can be varied in many ways , which allows nearly combination techniques with each character.
